Devon Week 2

Our second week at Whitehill the weather was a bit cooler but that didn't stop Megan from going in the pool at least once a day! Ben was less keen but still had a fair few dips too.
Before we came away I had used some of our tesco clubcard vouchers for days out in Devon, so we had tickets for Kents Caverns and Pizza Express.

Kents Caverns is in Torquay and is a great day out.

As well as the caves, there are woodland trails, digging for gems, activities for the kids, cafe and shop. There is a guided tour of the caves, which is really interesting and gives you a bit of history of how the caves were, who lived in them and how they were found. Megan found this really informative. Ben's best bit was when all the lights were switched off and we could experience just how dark it would really of been!!!

Whilst we were in Torquay we went to the harbour and then had tea at Pizza Express. A real treat after cooking in the tent all week!!!

We spent a day at Paignton Zoo, as this was somewhere Mr W really wanted to go, to give him the chance to use his proper camera! It is a lovely zoo, which is a great selection of animals. Mr W and Megan even managed to spot the elusive cheater, even though he was hiding in his house!

We had a lazy day around the camp site, playing, swimming and following another treasure trail!!!

Ben made a little friend, and they spent a lot of time playing football together and riding down the little hill near the tent.
We did something that we have been wanting to do for the 3 years we have been going to south Devon.
We went on a steam train and river cruise.

We left on the steam train from Paignton to Kingswear, where we went on the foot ferry across the River Dart to Dartmouth. We had a lovely time wandering around Dartmouth, which is a beautiful little town.

We ate our picnic on the harbour watching boats coming in and out and then went on the river cruise. This was great as lots of points of interest were pointed out to us as we sailed along and we even saw a mermaid!! A stone one admittedly, but still a mermaid!!!
Ben slept for the whole cruise, catching up on all the late nights!!!

After our cruise it was time for ice cream and another wander, followed by tea overlooking the river.
We caught the evening train back later on back into Paignton.

We went to one of my favourite beaches, Broadsands.

I love wandering up and down and collecting shells, and Megan and Ben loved this too. We had a small collection to bring home!

We took a trip to Becky Falls, which had beautiful falls to walk down to, a few animals to pet and feed and the opportunity to hold and touch a variety of animals. Megan enjoyed this, as it was somewhere she wanted to go to.

Finally and sadly our two weeks came to an end, but we squeezed in a spot more crabbing!!!
Our last day was warm and dry so we could pack up fairly easily. once we had done this Megan had a final swim and we went into Paignton for battered chips for lunch and a play on the geo park play ground.  We enjoyed a final stroll along the prom and had a last ice cream overlooking Paignton harbour before leaving Devon again and heading back home, eager to see all the building work that had been done while we were away!!!
